We spent the night on the plane. Finally 81/2 flight hours to get a bit of sleep! At 5:20 a.m., we arrived in Tahiti, just in time for breakfast. Since we had gone straight from diving to flying without a shower break, everyone was looking forward to a shower at our accommodation. After a 40 minute bus drive we arrived there and, 20 minutes later, we were on the way to a dive near Moorea. A tight schedule!
A spectacular view of the lagoon with its turquoise water awaited us as we entered the port. The calcium levels with 380 mg/l were quite low, too. During our three dives we saw incredible numbers of sharks (blacktip, lemon and nurse sharks). They came quite close at times. To watch the elegance of their movements and their really unique behaviour is a dream for any diver. Added to this tableau came the whale song, which we could hear clearly under water.
Today we returned to the camp at 5 p.m. and had enough time to explore the fauna of terrarium animals, to shower and to eat together in peace in the evening. This way we had the chance to sit together, reliving and making sense of our first experiences together. The time difference of 12 hours caused some team members problems, and led to overtiredness. So, let’s finish for today!
