Your aquarium plants not only need love, they also need a little food. They get a small amount from the excretions of your aquarium fish and get the rest through fertiliser and perhaps a CO2 fertiliser system. The fertiliser provides your aquatic plants with the vital minerals iron, potassium, magnesium, etc., which they take and consume from the water. For aquascapers (underwater landscape builders), who usually maintain a large number of very demanding aquarium plants with few fish and invertebrates, there is the JBL PROSCAPE range. In such aquariums, phosphate and nitrate, for example, have to be added separately, whereas in "normal" aquariums they are present in abundance due to fish feeding and the many fish.
