Treat your tortoises with healthy food
Tortoises are gourmets and certainly won’t eat everything. However they do enjoy some foods they shouldn’t eat at all. Tomatoes, citrus fruit and flesh are unsuitable. The composition of the JBL PROTERRA food range was developed in cooperation with Dr. Petra Kölle at the University of Munich and with specialist turtle breeders. Palatability trials showed that tortoises unambiguously prefer food from the JBL PROTERRA range to all the foods offered. Because even if a food is nutritionally perfectly composed it firstly needs to be accepted by the animal! This is particularly noticeable in JBL PROTERRA FRUCTIL due to the natural fruit aroma and fruit colours.
JBL PROTERRA FRUCTIL is the ideal complete food for your tortoises. Of course you can also collect green plant food and herbs to supplement their basic nutrition in summer. The other JBL PROTERRA foods VEGABIL, HERBIL and FLORSIL are an ideal and species-appropriate supplement to JBL PROTERRA FRUCTIL. Tortoises like variety.
Turtle species for which this food is ideal (examples):

- Four-clawed tortoise
JBL expeditions often visit turtle habitats, be it in the deserts or, even more frequently, in the wetlands of the tropics. The observations of their way of life and eating habits are incorporated into the development of the JBL foods. This information directly from the wild is extremely valuable, as it would otherwise hardly be available.
The aim should always be to care for the animals in a species-appropriate way and ideally to provide for offspring in order to reduce the removal of species from the wild. Although breeding is not absolutely necessary for some species, as the species relevant to the trade come from offspring or are not endangered, JBL nevertheless considers it desirable to breed pets.
