Healthy pond environment
The right water values in the garden pond depend on the fish stock, the filtering and the plants. Even if the water looks clear it can be contaminated. With poor values diseases or algae can appear in the pond. To maintain a healthy pond it is important to check and adapt the water values regularly. With the JBL ProAquaTest kit for koi you can determine the most important water values in your koi or garden pond.
Why is testing needed?
In ponds, phosphate primarily enters the water as a result of organic substances (leaves, dying algae), the digestive processes of the fish and food remains. If conditions are unfavourable, the phosphate levels may reach values that are sometimes 100 and more times higher than natural levels. Undesirable algae will then inevitably multiply explosively as a consequence.
BL offers a further phosphate test which can indicate even low phosphate levels in the water. The JBL Phosphate Test sensitive can indicate phosphate levels as low as 0.02 mg/l and as high as 1.8 mg/l in 9 gradations. The JBL Phosphate Test PO4 Koi starts at 0.1 and reaches 10 mg/l in 9 steps.
If the JBL Phosphate Test sensitive indicates the highest value with a dark blue colour (1.8 mg/l) it is not clear whether it is 1.8 mg/l or more and if more, how much more. Then it’s best to apply the JBL Phosphate Test Koi, which can show values as high as 10.0 mg/l.
