  • Monitors water values in aquariums simply and reliably. Determines pH (3 ranges), carbonate hardness, general hardness, ammonium/ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, iron, copper, silicate, oxygen, and, with the help of a table, the CO2 calculation
  • Add the reagents to the water samples, compare on the colour chart, read off the values and check the analysis sheet to see which actions are recommended, if any
  • Comparator system takes the inherent water colouring into account. CO2-content is determined by pH value and KH value using the table
  • Contains a childproof reagent bottle in a waterproof plastic case. Refill reagents are separately available

Healthy aquariums with conditions close to nature
The right water values are dependent on the fish stock and the plants in the aquarium. Even if the water looks clear it can be contaminated. Bad values can cause diseases or algae in the aquarium. To maintain a healthy aquarium with conditions close to nature it is important to check and adapt the water values regularly. With JBL water tests you can determine all relevant water values quickly, easily and very precisely.

The following tests are included in the test case:
pH test: water acidity from 3.0 to 10
pH test: water acidity from 6.0 to 7.6
pH test: water acidity from 7.4 to 9.0
O2 test: determination of the oxygen content
GH test: determination of the general hardness
KH test: pH stability of the water (carbonate hardness)
PO4 test: determination of the phosphate content (reason for algae growth and plant nutrient)
Test NH4 / NH3: identifies non-toxic ammonium, uses table to determine any toxic ammonia
NO2 test: determination of nitrogen compound nitrite, which is toxic for the fish
NO3 test: determination of the nitrate content (reason for algae growth and plant nutrient)
Fe test: determination of the iron content to monitor fertilisation
Cu test: determination of heavy metal deadly for invertebrates. Also important for adjusting the dose of therapeutic medications
SiO2 test: determination of the silicates (silicic acid), which cause diatoms
To determine the CO2 content, you just need to measure the pH and KH values. These two values will give you the CO2 content in the water, which then can be referenced from the enclosed table.

The following water tests are available as supplements:
K test: determination of the plant nutrient potassium
Mg test Freshwater: determination of the plant nutrient magnesium
CO2 Direct test: determination of the current carbon dioxide content for thriving plant growth

Where can I find the record sheets for the documentation of my water analysis?

Have you lost your record sheets, used them all up, or need them in another language?
In the appendix of this FAQ you will find PDF files for printing them out in German, English and French.

Why are there different recommendations and values on the colour chart of the water test?

With the JBL PROAQUATEST drop tests you have a laboratory comparator system which compensates the inherent colouration of the water and at the same time enables non-chemists to carry out an accurate and safe water analysis. To ensure that water testing monitors the life of your fish and provides the greatest possible safety, you will find an evaluation adaptable to three different applications.

Above the different coloured measuring points are numbers, three symbols and a colour band for each.

The symbols stand for the following applications:
Fish = freshwater
Koi = garden pond
Starfish = marine water

The colour band tells you the meaning of the value determined in green (everything OK), yellow (attention) and red (need for action). In addition you will find numbers that reflect the value in mg/l for the respective colour field.

The first two (freshwater and pond) colour bands belong to the upper number row. Marine water belongs to the lower number row.

Why do the values differ?
Due to the high salt concentration in marine water, the colouring of the reaction is not as intense as in freshwater (which also includes pond). Consequently, the value for the same colouration is greater than in freshwater

Why do the recommendations differ?
Every habitat reacts differently to certain nutrient concentrations. In the garden pond, for example, constantly changing temperatures and light intensity can jeopardise the value more than in freshwater, where, unlike in the pond, these factors are constant and necessary additives are supplied. That’s why the recommendations are green for one area of application, yet yellow for the other.

I have lost my colour chart. Can I download the colour chart for the test?

The colour cards are not available for download on the JBL website. The absolutely accurate colour reproduction that is required can only be achieved using a printer which can be re-calibrated before each printout. Most privately used printers are not accurate enough for this.

Why are there no colour charts for GH. KH, Mg /Ca saltwater and CO2 direct?

The tests from the test range: JBL GH test, JBL KH test, JBL calcium test Ca and JBL magnesium test Mg, where the number of drops are counted until the colour changes and the counted value is multiplied by a value:

GH = number of drops = general hardness in °dH

KH = number of drops = carbonate hardness in °dH

CO2 = number of drops * 2 = CO2 in mg/l

Magnesium + calcium = number of drops * 120 = amount Ca + Mg in mg/l

Calcium = number of drops * 20 = amount Ca in mg/l

Magnesium = amount Ca+Mg from magnesium test - amount Ca in mg/l = magnesium in mg/l

The instructions point out that the comparator block should be used to compare the colours. Can this be done without the comparator block as well ? Or is there a factor from this comparison that is required for the measurement ?

The colour charts are intended to be used with the comparator block. In addition, when the comparator block is used with the blank water sample, this compensates the inherent water colour.

Therefore, if the comparator block is not used, there will most likely be deviations in the readings.

Amazing product. It is definitely One of my favourite products from JBL.

I use it once a week or every two weeks to test my water.

This way i can check all the parameters of my water and achieve a stable ecosystem.

The case is extremely complete, and you will find all the necessary tests that you will need for your scape. Really easy to use, i will buy this again!

De test zijn eenvoudig te gebruiken, de beschrijving is erg duidelijk. De koffer is erg compleet.

Voor mij 1 minpuntje de thermometer geeft altijd 30°C aan zelfs in de koelkast, voor de rest een perfecte set.

De testresultaten zijn ook, stabiel, dus 2x dezelfde test uitvoeren geeft hetzelfde resu5, dat is bij andere merken nog al eens anders.

Het zou mooi zij waneer je ook deze testresultaten zou kunnen opslaan in MijnJBL.

Een aanrader voor iedereen.

Super completa!!! Davvero, per chi vuole ottenere il massimo dai propri Acquari, non può ignorare una valigetta del genere. Posso capire il costo, non proprio concorrenziale, ma credo che avere la consapevolezza di ciò che accade in vasca, possa portare alla lunga un notevole risparmio sia sulla flora che sulla fauna del proprio mondo acquatico. Personalmente la consiglio molto.

Einige Jahre nutzte ich ein Konkurrenzprodukt, welches mich nicht überzeugen konnte. Also wechselte ich vor einigen Jahren zu diesem Testkoffer. Nachdem die Flut in NRW meinen kompletten Aquaristikkeller zerstörte, war dieser Koffer eine der ersten Anschaffungen, die ich machte, als ich einige Monate danach die ersten 2 behelfsmäßigen Cubes aufstellte. Ich denke, das spricht für sich. Es gibt sicher Tests, die noch genauer sind, aber die sind für diesen Zweck absolut unerschwinglich. Ich denke, Preis/Leistung ist hier ausgewogen.

Der Testkoffer liefert viele Glasflaschen und Messkolben um gleich mehrere Tests gleichzeitig zu machen.

Die darin enthaltene Dokumentation ist sehr verständlich und hilfreich.

Alle wirklich relevanten Tests sind hier enthalten.

Da ich vorher einen kleineren Koffer hatte und mir bei Bedarf weitere Tests gekauft habe, kann ich nur empfehlen gleich diesen Koffer zu kaufen. Auf Dauer spart man sich Zeit und Geld. (Nichts ist ärgerlicher als einen Wert testen zu wollen und den Test nicht parat zu haben. Am Sonntag. Während deine Garnelen sterben, glaub mir!).

Ich wünschte, ich hätte diesen Testkoffer früher gekauft! Ich kann ihn nur empfehlen.

Für mich der beste Testkoffer überhaupt. Er ist einfach in der Handhabung, hat alles wichtige dabei und ist zudem für den Preis sehr umfangreich.

Ein Sternchen abzug muss ich leider geben, da leider das Gh und auch öfter das Kh Fläschchen gerne mal etwas ausläuft - Diese dann am besten im unteren Teil lagern ;)

Es sind fast alle Test enthalten. Aber vor allem die besonders wichtigen für das Tierwohl sind dabei. All diese Tests sind super verständlich und einfach zu machen.

Im großem JBL Koffer ist alles drin, was man benötigt, um die Wasserwerte für sein Aquarium zu bestimmen.

Neben der grundlegenden Bestimmung von Parametern, wie KH, GH, No2, No3 und PH-Wert (die jeder für sein Wasser kennen sollte) sind auch Reagenzien für Cu, Fe, Po4 und SiO2 mit im Koffer. Für alle, die empfindliche Fische oder evtl. ein Algenproblem haben oder gerade ein Aquarium einfahren lassen, ein absolutes Muss. Ich teste regelmäßig, um einen Überblick zu behalten!

Für mich ist der JBL Testkoffer ein Must-Have im Unterschrank.

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser.
