Why doesn't the LED switch off immediately when used with the JBL SolarControl?
Whether for theme aquariums or in manual mode, whether for a lunch break or at sunrise or sunset, the LEDs always dim down slowly. This always provides your fish and plants with a natural light profile and also protects your LEDs and increases their lifetime.
How is the JBL LED SOLAR CONTROL restarted?
To restart the JBL LED SOLAR CONTROL, disconnect the mains plug of the controller from the power supply. Close the LED SOLAR CONTROL app via the task manager. Wait at least 60 seconds before reconnecting the device.
Why does the Android App need permission to access your location?
Location sharing is only required for displaying the available networks and can be deactivated after adding the controller or connecting to the home network. Since the WiFi networks available in the vicinity make it possible to calculate one's own position (WLAN-based positioning), the user must be informed and agree to this in accordance with Google guidelines. The app does not retrieve GPS data.
How many dimming levels does the JBL LED SOLAR have?
When using the JBL LED SOLAR with the IR receiver, you have 8 dimming levels. The setting options with the JBL LED SOLAR CONTROL are varied and can be changed in the course of the day at programmed times.
Can I regulate two LED SOLAR NATUR or two LED SOLAR EFFECT with one controller unit?
No, this is not possible. The cable switch only offers space for one JBL LED SOLAR NATUR and one EFFECT.
Does the "lunch break" extend the entire daily cycle?
You have the option of setting an additional lunch break for all theme aquariums. But this lunch break does not extend the preset day with 10 hours of lighting. It only switches off the light for the set time. This mode is advisable if you wish to reduce the overall lighting duration for a short time due to problems (e.g. algae). We do not recommend you use this mode in continuous operation, as nature as a model provides sufficient balance with adjusted brightness levels. For aquariums that have been converted to the JBL LED SOLAR technology use the special acclimatisation mode instead of the lunch break, to get the plants used to it.
Do I need the acclimatisation mode at all?
We recommend you use the acclimatisation mode after switching to the JBL LED SOLAR technology. This applies in particular if you switch from a conventional T8/T5 tube technology or a very weak LED to this system. In contrast to many other systems, a JBL LED NATURE is sufficient to provide your entire aquarium with sufficient light and to encourage even demanding plants to grow vigorously. In short: it’s powerful! No matter which theme aquarium you’re using, you need to select the acclimatisation mode at the beginning, as this will make it easy for your plants to adjust from their previous illumination with fluorescent tubes to the much brighter light of the LED without any problems. Of course, any program can also be selected without acclimatisation.
Can I increase the lighting duration for theme aquariums?
The theme aquariums have a fixed lighting duration of 10 hours per day. You can change the preset, natural start time and thus set your personal aquarium day. This means you have enough time, adapted to your daily routine, to observe the fish. JBL does not recommend extending the lighting duration to more than 10 hours. This does not correspond to the natural weather data (daily average), nor is it beneficial for your aquarium and the plants. If you still wish to have more than 10 hours of lighting, you can set up your desired day yourself in manual mode.
Can I use the controller unit with only one LED SOLAR NATUR?
Yes, this is possible. However, we recommend the combination of NATURE and EFFECT in theme aquariums to keep the setting as close to the biotope as possible. Without an EFFECT, the settings of the theme aquariums are adjusted accordingly. Operation without a SOLAR NATUR LED is not possible.
How do I connect my Android smartphone to the JBL LED SOLAR CONTROL?
First go to the WLAN settings of your smartphone. The quickest way to get there is to scroll down from the top of the screen and then press and hold the activated WLAN symbol. Tap on "Add network" and select the network in the format JBL_XXXX. The default password is 12345678 and you should change it later.
Now switch back to the "My controllers" area in the LED SOLAR app and continue.
Does the JBL LED SOLAR CONTROL automatically change between summer time and winter time?
The controller uses the time on the smartphone and has no integrated radio clock or time server, so the changeover is NOT automatic. After a time changeover, you only need to connect your smartphone briefly to the JBL LED SOLAR CONTROL once so that the controller can download the current time from your smartphone.
Why isn’t the app connecting to the controller?
As explained in another FAQ, the app requires location sharing to add a controller. Otherwise connection problems will occur. If you have already granted location sharing, the automatic network change to the stronger WLAN network in the vicinity or to mobile data use may be the cause. Check under “Settings” to see which network your smartphone is connected to (see pictures at the end of the FAQ).
Some smartphones automatically connect to another network or the mobile network if no active internet access is available.
Solution: If it looks similar to the screenshot above right with the red X, deactivate the automatic network switch in the WLAN settings (usually a cogwheel icon). Another solution is to connect the controller to your home network as described in the instructions.
