Product information

Precise dosing
Without light as an energy source plants do not absorb CO2 but they still release CO2. A large supply of carbon dioxide is therefore not necessary at night. The noiseless solenoid valve makes a dosing of the required carbon dioxide possible. The device is controlled either by a night timer on the fertiliser unit or directly by a pH control unit (timer and controller not included). The correct CO2 amount varies from aquarium to aquarium and depends on the volume, the water movement and the planting in the aquarium.

Hazard-free and economical
Thanks to its low power input of 0.8 W the valve body is hardly warm to the touch and operates with a 12 V safety transformer. The noiseless solenoid saves up to 50% CO2.

Attach directly to the pressure reducer:
You can either connect the solenoid valve JBL PROFLORA V002 to the pressure reducer via a hose or screw it on directly. The photos in the product picture show you how to do it.

Why do you need a solenoid valve or a night shut-off?
Since plants only need CO2 for photosynthesis during the lighting phase, you can turn off the CO2 supply at night. To save you having to turn the CO2 bottle on and off, there are solenoid valves (JBL PROFLORA v002) which can be controlled by a timer. The timer then switches the light and the CO2 supply on via the solenoid valve in the morning and off again in the evening. People with a good head for figures will immediately recognise that the solenoid valve quickly recoups its cost expenditure by saving 50% CO2. It is always installed between the pressure reducer and the non-return valve. If you want to use a pH computer with automatic CO2 control, you’ll also need a solenoid valve. This is then not switched via the time switch, but via the pH control unit (JBL PROFLORA pH-Control Touch).

FAQ
Why, when switching on the device, does an enormous, pulse-like bubble formation often occur at the CO2 diffuser?

When the electromagnetic valve is switched off, the pressure in the entire system from the cylinder to the pressure regulator and the tubes and to the electromagnetic valve persists. When the valve is opened, the pressure in the system escapes first and then the system continues to operate as usual.

You can decrease / prevent this by reducing the operating pressure in your pressure regulator. In our new pressure regulators, this can be done with an Allen wrench under the black cover top.

Is the solenoid valve JBL ProFlora v002 also suitable for the switch-off of liquids ?

No, the solenoid valve is not suitable for this.

How much power does the JBL ProFlora v002 12 V solenoid valve require ?

A JBL ProFlora v002 solenoid valve requires approx. 1.3 W.

The following table provides an overview of the actual measured values.

JBL ProFlora v002 solenoid valve
Voltage: 234.9 V
Current: 0.01 amp
Volt-amperes: 3.1 VA
cos phi: 0.42
Active power: 1.3 W

Is it alright when the operating pressure rises after the solenoid valve closes?

A slight rise in the operating pressure is normal when the solenoid valve is closed, although the fluctuations should not be significant. If the operating pressure rises by more 0.2 - 0.4 bar when the solenoid valve is closed, the pressure reducer may be defective. The rise in operating pressure depends on the preset working pressure on the one hand and the hose volume and the compression strength of the hose on the other hand.

Why is carbon dioxide (CO2) the most important plant nutrient in the aquarium?

Carbon dioxide is the nutritional basis for aquatic plants which is supplemented through micro and macronutrients and light. The balance between all these elements is necessary for thriving plant growth in the aquarium.

There’s more to fertilization than you’d think Part 2

Simply put, Liebig’s Law of the Minimum states that the growth of plants is limited by the scarcest resource. Adding a nutrient which already exists in abundance does not influence the growth.

Fertilization is not just fertilization Part 1

Unlike in natural waters, aquariums with fish mostly have a surplus of nutrients caused by feeding and the resulting fish excrement. Thus nitrates and phosphates in large (often too large!) quantities are available for the plants.

PUSH messages from JBL

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser. Notifications appear on the end devices as they are familiar to the end user from apps installed on the device (e.g. emails). Notifications appear on the end user’s device, just like an app (e.g. for emails) installed on the device.

These notifications enable a website operator to contact its users whenever they have a browser open - it doesn’t matter whether the user is currently visiting the website or not.

To be able to send web push notifications, all you need is a website with a web push code installed. This allows brands without apps to take advantage of many of the benefits of push notifications (personalised real-time communications at just the right moment).

Web notifications are part of the W3C standard and define an API for end user notifications. A notification makes it possible to inform the user about an event, such as a new blog post, outside the context of a website.

JBL GmbH & Co. KG provides this service free of charge, and it is easy to activate or deactivate.
