JBL NitratEX
Filter material for the rapid removal of algae-promoting nitrate (NO3) from aquarium and tap water

  • Prevents and eliminates unwanted algae: filter mass for use in aquarium filters or for tap water for rapid nitrate removal
  • Use: fill filter mass into universal filter bag and place in the filter: 250 ml (170 g) bind 9000 mg nitrate
  • If the nitrate level in the water rises again, this filter material can be regenerated with common salt and thus made usable again
  • Only for freshwater aquariums and for rapid nitrate removal from the source water (e.g. tap water)
  • Package contents: 250 ml regenerable filter material, incl. net bag, clip for approx. 200 litres

Product information

Filter materials serve multiple purposes: they either filter suspended matter out of the water (mechanical filtering), provide settlement space for bacteria that break down pollutants (biological filtering), or remove harmful substances from the water (chemical/absorptive filter materials). Of course, mechanical filter media eventually become biological filter materials.
The filter material should always be fitted from coarse to fine inside the filter, as fine filter material clogs too quickly at the beginning. A coarse filter sponge or filter ceramic (JBL Cermec) is ideal for the first filter stage. For biological filtering, JBL Sintomec and JBL Micromec provide the largest possible surface area for pollutant-degrading bacteria. Activated carbon (JBL Carbomec active and Carbomec ultra) filters out discolouration and medication residues. JBL NitratEx and JBL BioNitrat Ex filter out nitrates. JBL PhosEx Ultra helps against algae-promoting phosphate. Silicat Ex helps against silicic acid which promotes diatoms.
2 Alternatives for nitrate removal:
JBL NitratEx: This is an exchange resin which extracts algae-promoting nitrate (NO3) from the water and replaces it with harmless chloride. This is done quickly and in direct current without any waiting time. In this way nitrate can also be removed from tap water before it enters the aquarium.

JBL BioNitratEx: Is a biological filter material on which bacteria settle after a little waiting time and then biodegrade nitrate without any "side effects". For efficient nitrate decomposition the bacteria need a carbon source (food) which is contained in the filter material. Thus the JBL BioNitratEX balls become smaller over time until they are completely degraded. Only then do they have to be renewed.

FAQ
Where in the filter do I need to place JBL NitratEx?

The perfect place for the nitrate remover pad is relatively far up in the filter so that you can quickly get to it again for reactivation. With the JBL CristalProfi external filters this means at the top in front of the filter outlet. At the inlet to the filter the pad would quickly become clogged with coarse dirt and this would reduce its performance.

Make sure that a sufficient layer of filter floss (JBL Symec or Symec XL) is placed in front of the NitratEx. The pad is followed by a final layer as a cover layer in front of the filter outlet.

How does JBL NitratEx act?

How does JBL NitratEx act?JBL NitratEx acts as an ion exchanger that is regenerated with cooking salt. 250 ml bind 9,000 mg NO₃.

Where did my algae come from?

Algae problems in an aquarium can never be traced to just one factor or general condition, and instead, are always the result of a combination of different factors, which include light, fertilization, water changes – specifically, how often and how much – feeding, fish population and, of course, the specific water parameters.

According to analyses that were performed over a course of a number of years, red algae, at least the common brush algae and beard algae, occur in descending order at the following parameters:

1) too little carbon dioxide (in relationship to 100 % of the measured tank); the pH level should be in the slightly acetic range, depending on the carbonate hardness, in every case.
2) elevated phosphate levels (over 90 %); phosphate limitation by means of JBL PhosEx ultra is often helpful here.
3) too little and too irregular fertilization (there should always be traces of iron at least).
4) insufficient water changes; a weekly water change of over 30 % is recommended for algae problems.
5) not enough fast-growing plants.

Does JBL NitratEx also filter iron out of the water ?

No, JBL NitratEx is a selective ion exchanger for nitrate. Besides this, nitrate has a negative charge in aqueous solutions, whereas iron is positive.

Can I use JBL BioFerm and JBL NitratEx at the same time?

The combined use of both products is not recommended, as BioFerm weakens the effect of NitratEx.

This product, does exactly what the title says. It removes the Nitrates from the water column. I prefer to use it, in the beginning when setting up the tank, because at that time the whole environment is a bit unstable and there is a lot of nitrate into the aquarium.

It is also advisable to have this product in case of an emergency (eg. too much food, sudden death of livestock) due to its rapid action!

Ich benutze es in einer Filtersäule im Bypass. Es funktioniert perfekt und ist überraschend effektiv.

Lässt sich wie beschrieben auch wieder reaktivieren. Ganz klar ein must have

PUSH messages from JBL

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser. Notifications appear on the end devices as they are familiar to the end user from apps installed on the device (e.g. emails). Notifications appear on the end user’s device, just like an app (e.g. for emails) installed on the device.

These notifications enable a website operator to contact its users whenever they have a browser open - it doesn’t matter whether the user is currently visiting the website or not.

To be able to send web push notifications, all you need is a website with a web push code installed. This allows brands without apps to take advantage of many of the benefits of push notifications (personalised real-time communications at just the right moment).

Web notifications are part of the W3C standard and define an API for end user notifications. A notification makes it possible to inform the user about an event, such as a new blog post, outside the context of a website.
