This new series will regularly answer the questions you send us. On 17 August, 2015 Roger Ledwig wrote in: “It would be great if you had some information about the birth of anemonefish.”
We are happy to oblige. Dear Roger, dear Community,
Unfortunately we can`t show you any pictures or videos of the birth of anemonefish. That’s because anemonefish come into the world in total darkness.
Taking such pictures would probably result in the loss of the lavae. The use of additional lighting and camera flashes, necessary for a night picture, would affect the orientation of the larvae. This could easily kill them.
That’s why we have chosen 2 photographs which show the stages before and after the hatching of the larvae. On the right you can see the egg deposit of the female and on the left a lot of juvenile fish.
Along with our partner Daniel Hötzel (from Aquarienkonzept), who is well known in Germany for his extensive anemonefish breeding, we will try to film the hatching process with an infrared video camera. For this we still need to find and install the right equipment. We will keep you informed.
