Our pair of desert iguanas (Diplosauus dorsalis), Martha and Norman, are very much at home in the building that houses the JBL lab. They have their own terrarium and enjoy the desert sun at JBL ReptilDesert L-U-W Light alu (Special lamp for use in reptile keeping! Not suitable for other applications! No EEK label required. Exemption according to (EU) 2019/2015 Annex IV 3. c) UV radiation > 2mW/klm) 50W and the additional heat and light source from the JBL ReptilDay Halogen 100W.
After Thomas, our animal keeper, had cleaned and refilled the substrate yesterday at 9:00 a.m. the animals obviously felt moved to dig a diagonal hollow 15-20 cm deep in the moistened new sand heap and to hide 5 eggs inside at about 12:20 p.m.
To support these activities we used JBL TerraSand natural red as our bottom layer. It is stable enough to allow hollows to be dug in it. Above that a mixture of JBL TerraSand natural yellow and JBL TerraSand natural white was added to resemble the iguanas’ natural habitat.
Their nutrition is similar to that of the bearded dragons. They like dandelion and other plants found growing wild in meadows and hedgerows. From time to time they also try our new food for Tortoises Herbil, which they enjoy soaked.
The following products are used in Martha’s and Norman’s terrarium: The substrate consists of JBL TerraSand natural red , JBL TerraSand natural yellow and JBL TerraSand natural white . We chose JBL ReptilDesert L-U-W Light alu (Special lamp for use in reptile keeping! Not suitable for other applications! No EEK label required. Exemption according to (EU) 2019/2015 Annex IV 3. c) UV radiation > 2mW/klm) and JBL ReptilDay Halogen with JBL TempProtect II light and JBL TempSet Unit L-U-W for the lighting and a sufficient UVB supply, installed a JBL TerraControl for their monitoring and integrated a JBL ReptilCava RED for a permanent water supply.
